SUMMARY:

Brian McMinn, Public Works Director, City of Marina, will make a presentation on the project features and status.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The cost for project development and construction is estimated to total $42.35 million. Project costs are being paid for as follows: $17 million in regional Measure X funding, $19 million in State SB 1 Competitive funding, $1.65 million in State Transportation Improvement Program funding and $4.7 million in City of Marina funding.

DISCUSSION:

Imjin Parkway is a regional commuter route connects the Monterey Peninsula and Salinas Valley provides an alternative to Highway 68 and direct access between Salinas and Cal State Monterey Bay.  Due to its importance in moving regional traffic, this project was included in the Measure X Transportation Safety and Improvement Program.  The City of Marina is the lead agency for the project.

This Measure X project will:

  • Widen the two-lane section of Imjin to four lanes
  • Install four roundabouts
  • Build a mixed use path
  • Stripe on-street buffered bike lanes
  • Enhance stormwater treatment areas
  • Build retaining and sound walls
  • Add landscaping and an irrigation system

The project is 100% designed, and the City is currently finalizing its right-of-way acquisition, permits and bid documents. Construction is slated to start in 2021 and be completed in 2023.
