Subject:

City of Monterey - Intersection Improvement Project for Del Monte and Casa Verde


RECOMMENDED ACTION:
RECEIVE update and PROVIDE INPUT on the Del Monte and Casa Verde Recreation Trail Crossing Intersection Improvement Project in the City of Monterey. 
SUMMARY:
The City of Monterey was recently awarded a grant for this project. City staff is seeking the Committee's input early on in the project's development. 
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The City of Monterey was awarded $982,800 in federal funds for the project. 
DISCUSSION:

The City of Monterey applied and received grant funding from the Highway Safety Improvement Program for the Del Monte and Casa Verde Recreation Trail Crossing Intersection Improvement Project. 

 

Housed within the Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act), the Highway Safety Improvement Program is aimed at achieving a significant reduction in traffic fatalities and serious injuries on all public roads, including non-State-owned public roads and roads on tribal lands. Projects awarded through this program must be identified on the basis of crash experience, crash potential, crash rate or other data-supported means. 

 

During the Committee meeting, City staff will share initial intersection design concepts and are seeking the Committee's early input.

 

Below is a list of items included in the scope of the grant award:

  • Relocation of the Casa Verde Trail Crossing to the intersection
  • Protected left turn phase
  • Shorten / restripe crosswalks
  • ADA Improvements
  • Add Bike crosswalks/signals
  • Median improvements
  • Leading pedestrian interval phase
