Coast Corridor Project Update



RECOMMENDED ACTION:

RECEIVE update on the planned increase in passenger rail service along the coast corridor between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

SUMMARY:

Progress since the last update on the coast rail project to this Committee on January 8, 2018 includes a meeting of the Coast Rail Coordinating Council Policy Committee, meetings related to the legislation to enable rail corridors to extend, and meetings related to the City of King's application for state funds.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The Coast Rail service project costs are still under evaluation.

 

The City of King applied for $21,622,753 in Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP) grant funds for their train station project.

DISCUSSION:

The Coast Rail Coordinating Council (CRCC) Policy Committee met on January 19 in Santa Barbara, and the next Policy Committee is scheduled to be in San Luis Obispo on April 16. Discussion topics at the January meeting included next steps on the legislation to support rail extensions and the Memorandum of Understanding. Staff will provide a verbal update at the meeting. The next Technical Committee phone call is scheduled for February 16. Attachment 1 is a revised schedule of CRCC meetings.

 

CRCC staff met with State Transportation Agency and Caltrans staff to discuss possible next steps on the legislation to enable intercity rail corridors to extend beyond their legislative boundaries. Staff will give a verbal update at the meeting.

 

The City of King applied for Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP) grant funds for their train station project. Committee Member LeBarre will update the Committee on that application. Online as a web attachment is the full application.
